In a bid to supplement the efforts of the West Bengal Government College Rear View and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in expanding the infrastructure of technical education in this region it was contemplated in 2000 to establish an Engineering College for the benefit of students in West Bengal in general and assist the christian students in the region, in particular. To give the idea a shape, St.Thomas’ College of Engineering & Technology was established with the intention to impart quality technical education to the students and imbibe confidence into the young talents graduating from the institution to stand up to the challenges of life with confidence.

Fee Structure
Fee structure for various courses:
Fees is decided by the “Fee Structure Committee of the West Bengal”. Semester fees are payable in June and December except for the fees for the First Semester. Late payment attracts a fine of Rs. 100 per month or part thereof . For non-payment beyond three months,concerned student’s name is struck off from the rolls and re-admission will have to be sought subject to permission of the college.
Our main banker is the State Bank of India,Kidderpore Branch.The bank collects the fees after the college office endorses the filled-in fee book.
Amount of fee waivers granted to about 121 students for odd semester 2009-2010 which is around Rs. 5.2 lakhs.
Criteria for fee waiver : Merit cum means.
Placements
Placements : A Training and placement cell is functioning in the college for the benefit of the students. Though no guarantee can be given fro the placement of all the students, efforts are made to familiarize them with the working in industries. They are trained to present themselves in a manner to suitably expose their potential to prospective employers. While it may not be possible to change their trait and attitude altogether, major thrust will be to provide a finishing touch to their skill and knowledge.
To provide opportunities to students, major companies in India are brought to this campus. Among software companies Infosys, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Mahindrasatyam, ITC Infotech, Peobries Software Pvt Ltd., are regular visitors and pick up the bulk of students. Off-campus and pooled campus drives are conducted by CMC LIMITED, EMTA GROUP OF COMPANIES, BAJAJ ELECTRICALS LTD., TARAGANA, LOGOTECH INDIA PVT. LTD., OMEGA ELEVATORS LTD., RAVE TECHNOLOGIES, TIL LTD., NOKIA SIEMENS NETWORKS, EFY ENTERPRISES PVT LTD, and others.
Among the companies in core sectors, Siemens, DCPL, Areva T&D, Graphite India Limited, BSNL, HFCL Satellite Communications, Bhusan Steel, Cicada Broadcast Solutions, Tractors India Limited, Air Tel, WBSEDCL and others company’s.

To give the idea a shape, St.Thomas’ College of Engineering & Technology was established with the intention to impart quality technical education to the students and imbibe confidence into the young talents graduating from the institution to stand up to the challenges of life with confidence.To ensure this, a plan was made so that it could become a seat of excellence in due course of time. Based on this preamble, St. Thomas’ College of Engineering & Technology at 4, Diamond Harbour Road, Kidderpore, Kolkata 700023,West Bengal came into being on 29th August 2000.
Central library: The College Library is a well organized Technical library which is computerised and equipped with Internet Facilities.
It has a 404.23 sqm carpet area of which 201.93 sqm is provided for a comfortable reading room with 150 seats for students.The reading room of the library remains open from 9 A.M to 8 P.M on weekdays and on Saturdays from 9 A.M to 5 P.M. Reprographic facilities like photocopying,computer printouts etc are also available for the students.
The Library has three main sections,that is GENERAL,BOOK-BANK and JOURNAL section.
Students can borrow three books from the General Section against their three Library Cards. They may also get four books as selected by them from the Book-Bank, for each semester. In special cases,the authority considers and approves applications from needy and deserving students for more books from the Book-Bank.
