The first batch of students has completed writing the first ever online VITEEE, and it is now time to analyze how the students feel about this newest CBT exam on the block. Our correspondents from across the country have been bringing us the earliest reactions from the top 4 metros, and this is what they have to tell us:
Vipul Chaudhary, our correspondent from Delhi/NCR has been camping outside one of the centers for the examination and he talked to a few students outside the exam hall. What he reveals is a picture of satisfaction. The exam was much almost as easy or difficult as last year but the CBT was tricky.
Satyalok Choubey, a student of DPS Noida, cheekily said that this was just like a pre-board exam. He is giving his Online JEE Main on 22nd and this VIT exam was like shadow practice, just before the final battle on 22nd. He is confident of securing a top 1000 rank and says that this is not his real goal. JEE Advanced is what he is gunning for.
Priyamani, a Vellore girl settled in the CR Park area said that the lure of going back to Vellore was too strong to resist. This is 'the' exam for her and she would do anything to make it through.
A lot of students though also reported that the computer they were giving the test on had hanged multiple times during the exam and the whole experience of the CBT had been spoilt.
Pratik Kate, our young FE Associate from Mumbai reports that students in Mumbai are treating the VITEEE 2013 as a good practice exam. Most of them are gunning for the top colleges in Mumbai and Pune. Pratik says that not many students from Maharashtra are keen on going to the south for their studies. Nonetheless, he says, there are quite a lot of students who feel that VIT Vellore is highly prestigious and are keen to get an admit.
The fees though, because it is on the higher side as compared to colleges in Maharashtra acts as an hindrance. Most of the test takers here are "cool" about the exam are are not under much pressure. Students who have already completed the test said that the JEE Main 2013 was much more difficult. VITEEE they say, has traditionally been easier. This time the situation was not much different.
As expected, Chennai treats its VITEEE very seriously. Students here give it as much importance as the JEE Main. Surprising, but true. Our FE Associate & correspondent in Chennai, Prasanna was quite excited about this exam. He had been talking to many students since the last week what they felt about the online VITEEE. Today, as students were coming out of the centers, the feeling was that of nervous excitement.
Many students complained about the IT infrastructure at the centers. The keyboard and mouse weren't working properly for many students. Others complained that the network connection was slow and they faced a harrowing time completing the test.
Few students who were confident about the test were again of the view that this is only the last option. NITs are their main goal.
Kolkata didn't look too excited and there were not many students who turned up for the exam. Many centers reported that the number of students expected vs the number that actually turned up was one of the lowest in the country.
Overall the early reports suggest that VITEEE in its new avatar has been accepted and that students are looking forward to getting admission in this prestigious institute from Vellore.
