She is already being touted as the next big thing in the Southern film industry and this is when she has just finished shooting for two movies, one of them in Telugu, releasing shortly.
Tapsee Pannu, a software engineer turned model turned actress is now apprehensive as well as elated as her first film Aadukalam is lined up for release in a few days. Born and brought up in Delhi, Tapsee is a qualified Computer Science Engineer whose passport to fame has been her winning the Best Skin award in the Miss India pageant.
When asked if it was tough for her to convince her parents to change fields, she says "my mom wanted me to enter films, my dad wanted me to do engineering, and I ended up passing with distinction. So I told him, 'I always did what you wanted me to do. I want one year to do what I want to do. If it doesn't work, I'll get back to what you wanted'." She was doing modeling while in college and moving on to films was a natural progression. "I quit a software engineering job for films. Now, there’s no looking back," she declares.
In fact with her cute looks and bubbly personality, its hard to believe for many that she has a technical background. "One day, I saw Dhanush (her co-star) using an iPhone application which was developed by me in my final year of college and when I told him this, he was pleasantly surprised, but very proud,” she smiles. She admits that she’s a tech freak who’s spotted with a new gadget all the time. "I can’t use the same mobile phone or iPod for more than a week. I keep updating my gadgets,” she adds.
Initially it was tough for her due to language problems and the fact that she is not trained in acting. But she's been a stage performer and had been learning kathak from the age of 4. Also, after completing her schooling, she was with Shiamak Davar's dance institute and was training to become an instructor! She did her Engineering from Indraprashta University (New-Delhi), and got placed at Infosys, but soon after got her first movie offer which she grabbed with both hands.
Now the bubbly actress has her first movie lined up for release and she has one request for her fans "just a few days to go, fingers crossed, guys, please love me in the movie,” she says.
