  • Engineering College In Tamil-Nadu Signs-Up Its Faculty For Technical Teachers Training

    Teachers training by engineering college
ollachi, Tamil-Nadu based Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology (MCET) has signed an MOU with The National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR) for giving training to their existing faculty members to upgrade their teaching skills and also handling the students.

MCET is the first college in Tamil-Nadu to enter into an MOU with NITTTR. Chennai based NITTTR is a model human resource development Institute for planning, designing, developing, organizing and evaluating quality training programmes, research studies and learning packages for technical and vocational education, industry and community. It would draw up a time-based plan for the college to train and enhance the skills of existing and newly joined faculty members, MCET Chairman M Manickam said.

The MOU would also facilitate to undertake staff development programme, curriculum development, instructional resources development, R and D and extension and consultancy services in future, Manickam told our reporter in Chennai last night.

S R K Prasad, Chairman NITTTR said “the institute is currently training 3,000 engineering college teachers and 3,500 teachers in polytechnic in a year in Southern states of Tamil-Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry.” He further added, “The institute proposed to start a one year PG diploma course from the next academic year.” Since the training was customised and need-based for the faculty members of engineering colleges, it would be a short duration course for one or two weeks, by which they would be able to enhance their teaching quality, Prasad said.

We feel this is a great move as it will improve the standard of teaching at our engineering colleges. Finally the teachers will come close to competing with the "FaaDoOEngineers"!
