Sydney train commuters trapped: Opal card ticketing gate failure

In peak hour on today morning Sydney train commuters were trapped at Town Hall station as a result of an apparent Opal card ticketing gate failure. Hundreds of passengers were unable to get past the gates. Absolutely chaos as the number of people gathers increases.

Staff members called out from the side to tell them to contact the Opal helpline.
The Opal card readers work on about half the gates on one the side, but none of the gates were working for paper tickets.

A Transport NSW spokesperson released a statement saying: "Some gates at Town Hall Station experienced technical issues for a short period just before 9am this morning, and staff assisted customers to ensure they continued through the gates."
