    With renewables outpacing the existing conventional energy system, it is important that the focus shifts to capacity building � in terms of knowledge and expertise. With the ambitious renewable energy missions being envisioned and realised in India to tap the abounding potential, it is the right time to develop an indigenous workforce empowered to build a renewable energy utopia.

    Recognizing such needs, the Department of Energy and Environment, TERI University (Deemed to be University, grade �A� accreditation by NAAC) was established in 2009 with initial support from M/s Suzlon Energy Ltd. in collaboration with international universities such as Brandeis University, USA; Deakin University, Australia; Queensland University of Technology, Australia; Freie University, Germany; and Simon Fraser University, Canada. The department now promotes state-of-the-art advanced learning through postgraduate programmes approved by the AICTE. These programmes are aimed at equipping students with knowledge in the emerging areas of clean energy technologies, through advanced methodologies and tools for evaluation, assessment and decision-making.

    The Department of Energy and Environment offers M. Tech programme in Renewable Energy Engineering and Management (REEM). Some of the highlights of the programme are:

    • Experienced in-house faculty complemented by sector experts from the industry
    • Helps understand conventional energy systems in depth, and in effect realise the relevance and importance of renewable energy systems
    • Enables holistic learning on renewable energy technologies (solar, wind, biomass etc.), their development and application, through classroom learning, workshops, laboratory sessions and its annual conclave REtopia.
    • Value addition by field visits and internships at leading industrial houses, government institutions, NGOs, consulting firms, renowned research organisations

    The programme is a great platform for students keen on realizing their potential and contributing to the renewable energy through their learning experience.
