Facebook has now launched it new app Facebook Lite in India and the Philippines. The application was officially launched on 4th July 2015 across the countries in Europe, and the application aims to provide better service at areas with intermittent connectivity especially for 2G networks.
The application can now be downloaded by the users from India and the Philippines from the official site of Google play store. At present the app is available for the users of Android only. The earlier version of the facebook apps has the size of 250MB and consumes a lot of data and as such the user’s areas with intermittent connectivity especially for 2G networks could not enjoy the full functionality of the site. Considering all these drawbacks and in the interest of all those users who could not enjoy the full functionality of the social networking giant Facebook, the new app Facebook Lite is launched.
Facebook lite apps only take up 435KB of storage and it also install very quickly then the earlier version of the Faceboo app. The app is specially designed to focus on four services of the users namely News Feed, Status Updates, Push Notifications, and Messages.
Vijay Shankar, Product Manager for Facebook Lite, said: “We will get to video soon… In India over 80% of the users are on 2G network. We have worked on improving the apps performance even on spotty connections and across devices from entry-spec devices to high-end ones. He also added “During the development phase, the team behind the app spent a lot of time on the ground traveling across India to test and check performance of the app.”
