The Great Mind Challenge 2015–Your Chance to Intern with IBM
Industry exposure, in addition to basic theories and concepts, takes a student a long way when it comes to their first step towards a fulfilling career.
The most widely accepted format of gaining this experience is through semester internship programs that usually last a couple of months. However, it is difficult to predict to what extent an internship actually provides a student with an experience of the real work scenario. While a few manage to bag some good practical projects, the rest are content with basic intern work. This is where a contest like IBM - The Great Mind Challenge (TGMC) proves to be a benefit.
TGMC is an outreach of the IBM Academic Initiative, a global program that facilitates the collaboration between IBM and educators to teach students the IT skills they need to be competitive and keep pace with changes in the workplace. It promotes engineering students from colleges across India in their endeavour to develop solutions for real-time problems and scenarios using IBM® Bluemix™ among other tools and technologies.
IBM® Bluemix™ is an open-standard, cloud platform for building, running, and managing applications. With Bluemix, developers can focus on building excellent user experiences with flexible compute options, choice of DevOps tooling, and a powerful set of IBM and third-party APIs and services.
TGMC is a platform for students to work on real world projects, become more industry ready and develop career skills. IBM also extends guidance and resources to students and faculty taking part in this competition, giving them an opportunity to directly learn from experts. With a chance to show case their software programming skills, students gain access to better placement opportunities.
To participate in The Great Mind Challenge and gain access to the Bluemix platform, students can register themselves as a user on IBM Bluemix. Post receiving a Bluemix confirmation link, fill out the TGMC registration form. Students participate in teams and will have a time period of 30 days to submit their project. Winners also get an exclusive chance to be interviewed for an internship with IBM.
TGMC 2013 has been recognized as the largest software development contest for engineering students in the country by the Limca Book of Records in its 2009 edition.
