GATE is not an easy examination to crack and proper strategy to plan your studies and manage your time is of paramount importance. Apart from this, determination to succeed and focus on your goal is required to be able to score well in the prestigious examination. Engineers are notorious to start late and if you can handle GATE like your any other college exam, you better reconsider your approach. Unplanned studies of a week or so will take you nowhere.
You are already an Engineer and you probably still be have your books you studied during your B.Tech. As GATE is simply an entrance exam for admissions in various post graduation programmes in engineering, you should practice as many questions from old books as possible. Those books should be used as a foundation for your studies.
One more thing which needs special attention is the clarity of your target. It means you must be clear on the rank which you want to secure for your purpose. For instance, if your target is to qualify for any of the top courses at the IITs, you must secure a rank which is less than 1000. It means you cannot afford to leave out any section during your preparations. On the other hand, if your target is to simply qualify, you can leave out some sections as per your priority and plan.
Winning Strategy to Crack GATE 2016
Time duration required to prepare
As mentioned earlier, unplanned studies of a week or so will take you nowhere and yield no result at all. If you are really serious to crack the GATE 2016 exam and obtain a top rank, start your studies well in advance, say 5-6 months before the scheduled dates. Dedicate atleast 8-10 hours every day for the same.
The last few week before the exams are purely for revisions. There is no point picking a new topic during this time as it will confuse as well as consuming your revision time. Revise everything during this time and start nothing new if you can help it.
Mock tests to practice
Keep the final 2 weeks entirely for mock tests. Solve the Previous GATE Papers. This will give you a clear idea of the paper pattern and types of questions for upcoming GATE exam. There are lots of mock test papers and previous year GATE papers available all over the web.
Prepare short notes for future reference
Make a habit of preparing short notes for future reference. This habit will help you a lot during your revisions.
Take it easy
Finally, take it all easy! Do not panic and remain composed. Eating well and sleeping tight are very crucial. This is not just going to make you weak, but this may also lead to loss of concentration due to mal nutrition and lack of sleep.
