Metro technology to be part of BTech course soon
The Metro Technology is sure creating ripples far and wide! Looking into the growing importance of metros, private engineering colleges across the country will introduce a BTech in metro technology as a new stream of study from 2013.

“A panel has been formed to prepare the content of the course. The committee is likely to submit its report in three months,” All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) chairman SS Mantha said.

With the network of metro train services increasing sharply in the NCR and similar projects lined up in other cities, the new stream of study is mainly designed to help in meeting an acute shortage of such engineers in the country in the future.

The Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) had earlier requested the Union human resource development ministry to start the course in the major engineering colleges. The ministry had asked AICTE to prepare a blue print on the proposal.

Maintaining that the course would be beneficial because of the mushrooming of metros across the country, Mantha said: “The metros can provide a viable solution to some of the basic problems like choking traffic and spiraling petrol price. I am very confident that the course will have a lot of employment opportunities.”

Mantha added: “Only those colleges which have the essential facilities will be given permission to start the course.”
