IITs & NITs meeting on ISEET postponed
The joint meeting of the councils of IITs & NITs which was scheduled to take place tomorrow in the wake of stiff opposition to the proposed ISEET, as been postponed to a later date.
IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay have raised serious objection to the examination format which will replace the existing IIT-JEE and the All India Engineering Entrance Examination. The development follows the HRD Ministry's failure to take the IIT faculty federation onboard on the issue during an interaction on April 11.
Insisting that the IIT senates should have a final say on such far reaching reformative measure, the federation has passed a resolution towards this effect. It has noted with grave concern that the new test was being thrust upon without allowing enough time for discussions and critically reviewing and acceptance in IIT senate.
It emphasized that executing the changes should be kept on hold until the issue is accepted by the senate. The proposed common entrance examination for admission to undergraduate science and engineering programmes will see a ranking list prepared based on two-part objective-type tests and give importance to Class XII marks.
The proposed test, which the HRD Ministry intends to conduct the test under the new format on April 7, 2013 could, however, figure prominently at the Central Advisory Board Meeting slated here on coming Monday.
