  • GBTU brings in Dual Degree programs for engineering students

The G.B.T.U. academic council has decided, in principle, introduce dual degree (B.Tech + M.Tech./MBA) programs from the session 2013-2014.

This move will enable the students to save a year. Students can complete their undergraduate and postgraduate courses simultaneously in five years instead of the usual six,'' said an official. The dual programme offers a Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) and a Masters in Technology (M. Tech) degree or a B. Tech and an MBA together.

And if the two programs are pursued separately, a student will have to spend four years for B. Tech and another two for M. Tech.

Academic council members said that a committee headed by the GBTU vice-chancellor will be formed to lay down the formalities, procedures and other rules for awarding the dual degree. The admission procedure to the dual degree course will be similar to the four-year undergraduate B Tech programme. The decision will apply to more than 300 technical institutes.

The university has also decided that those securing less than 60% marks in B. Tech would not be allowed to do M. Tech. This is aimed at improving the quality of the postgraduate course and encouraging good research.
