  • Micromax goes big, forays into Home Entertainment space

Micromax, the smartphone company that initially started off as a low-cost handset manufacturer has come a long way since it's foray into the smartphone segment back in 2008.

The company has now decided to expand it's inventory and so, last Tuesday, Micromax launched it's own range of LED televisions, 3D Blu-Ray player, Home theater systems and an Android computer dongle.

The six LED TV's from Micromax will be priced between Rs 15,990 - Rs 1,29,990. The screen size on these LED TV's would range from 24-inch to 55-inch. The other offering from Micromax, a 3D Blu-Ray player is priced at Rs. 6,490.

Other than that, the company launched two Home Theater systems, HT037F1 and HT089F1 at Rs. 5,990 and Rs. 6,990 respectively and an Android computer dongle (Smart Stick) that will enable users to access internet on their Television.

Micromax Director Mukesh Gupta said, “SMART Stick will be priced at Rs 5,000 and will connect to any television with an HDMI port. It’s like a dongle and will help users access Internet on their TV's."

Announcing it's new range of products, Rajesh Agarwal, MD and co-founder, Micromax, said, "As we move forward, we want to be the screen partner for our consumers, no matter what the screen size is. As consumer preferences evolve and they want their devices and experience to be smart and personal, we feel the future of TV will depend on user, programming, connectivity and personalization.

Compared to mobile phones, televisions are a long-term interface and consumers want these to be smart and suave, and at the same time have a seamless experience while shifting from one screen to another."

These range of products from Micromax would be initially introduced in the following 9 cities- Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Gujarat.

Micromax would surely be looking to hit the bulls-eye once again as it did with the launch of it's smartphone range. How well it fares in it's new venture, we'll just have to wait to find out.
