  • Locate your polling station using Google Maps in these Himachal elections!

    In a first of it's kind move, the Election Commission (EC) has decided to use Google Maps to help the voters locate their polling station during the upcoming elections in Himachal Pradesh.

    Moreover, the directions to a particular polling station would also be provided using the Maps.

    This online service would also contain other information such as the names of election officials, total number of the registered voters and electoral rolls. There are a total of 45.9 lakh registered voters in the state who are all set to cast their votes on the 4th of November at 7,253 polling stations throughout the state.

    P.L Negi, the additional state electoral officer said, "Instead of locating the polling station here and there, just visit the commission's website and type your address or place you are interested to visit. Google Maps will automatically provide a list of nearby polling stations."

    Prior to this years elections, the polling information was only available through manual maps, while it's the first time that the internet is being used.

    Officer on special duty (elections) Neeraj Sharma said, "We had to rely on manual maps to identify the route of a particular polling station but now the information is available online. Itís for everyone to use."

    We just hope that this new service helps to increase the voter turnout this year!
