Had a long, tiring day? Let this robot give you a head massage!
When it comes to developing robots, nothing can beat the Japanese! Carrying this reputation forward, is the Japanese electronic giant Panasonic, who recently showed the world, a prototype dry head spa robot. The robot can gently massage your scalp as of now.
If you wish to start the dry head spa with this prototype, you would need adjust your head position and the hairline position. The robot would then apply a little presure over your head would develop a 3D scan of your head with the help of some special sensors.
The 3D map thus created would enable this 24 fingered robot to automatically follow your head's shape, with the expansion and contractions of it's arms, making surethat it's arms reach the center of your scalp.
Moreover, Panasonic now plans to couple this prototype with a massage chair to give you a complete in-chair spa treatment and a full body massage.
The company says, "For kneading the scalp while the hair is dry, people use dry head spas. So, we've added a robot hand we'd already developed for washing hair, and developed this, as a model for seeing how such therapy might feel.
We'd like to develop this hand unit further, in a variety of ways. For example, it could be attached to a bathtub or a desk.
We've only just created this, so we don't yet have a timeline for releasing it. We'd like to use this version for fine-tuning the technology, to check that it provides optimal sensation and movement."
Though Panasonic says that that as of now, they don't plan a commercial release for this robot and it would just be limited to a prototype. The company believes that first, they would like to improve the technology so that this robot provides the best head massage possible.
