  • First wave of Windows Phone 8 devices hits India as HTC launches the 8X and 8S

After Microsoft officially launched Windows Phone 8 on October 29, it was only a matter time before the manufacturers released their WP8 devices in the markets.

Yesterday, at an event in Singapore, the Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC launched it's two Windows Phone 8 devices, the HTC 8x and 8S for the Indian markets. Both these smartphones would go on sale this month and would be one of the first few flag bearers for Microsoft's new mobile OS.

    HTC 8X

The HTC 8X is the flagship Windows Phone 8 smartphone from HTC and features a 4.3-inch Super LCD 2 display with a 720p HD resolution. The screen should be able to withstand quite a bit of bouse as it is built using the corning Gorilla Glass 2 technology.

Under the hood, the phone is powered by a 1.5GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor and packs 1GB RAM. The HTC 8X comes with an 8-megapixel primary camera with a single LED flash that's capable of recording videos in Full HD. The phone comes with HTC's Image Sense chip that we've seen on previous models like the HTC One X. Thus, photos and video-recording capabilities of the 8X should be top notch (on-paper, at least). The phone also comes with a 2.1-megapixel front facing camera that quite impressive as well.

The phone comes with 16GB of internal storage but on the downside, there's no Micro-SD card slot for storage expansion. That's a let down from HTC, as it missed such an important feature in it's flagship device. The 8X houses a 1800 mAh battery and comes with a price tag of Rs.35,023.

    HTC 8S

The other phone launched by HTC is the HTC 8S that's a mid-range Windows Phone 8 device and with the kind of specifications it packs, it can be said that HTC has priced it aggressively at Rs.19,260.

Being the younger sibling to the 8X, the HTC 8S features a similar design but unlike the 8X's solid colors, the 8S is available in two-tone colors. The HTC 8S is powered by a 1GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chip coupled with 512MB RAM.
