What's the best scorecard you've seen? When I first saw the new look cricinfo score card that allowed each dismissal to be read about, I thought that was neat. Incremental improvement is still possible. E.g., the fours and sixers count can be made clickable, to get highlights of a batsmen's innings. But can we do even better? Can we think of a truly next gen cricket scorecard?
Usual stats don't tell the story in between, do they? Can we publish stats such as:
- How many times a batsman was beaten?
- How many mi****s resulted in runs?
- How many catches dropped short?
- How many short balls and full-tosses didn't get hit?
- Was there dew? From when?
- How many overs did each bowler bowl with the new ball?
- How many deliveries were reverse swinging/googlies/doosras?
- ...
Possibilities seem infinite
How does one collect all this info? Hawk-eye?
And even if we did collect all the info, what's the best way of visualizing all this info compactly in a smart scorecard?
Don't think it is impossible. Look at how neat a job some programming team did for NFL.com. Every single drive is visually represented in a "drive chart" (one of the tabs at the bottom right of the gamecenter). Fans can click on each drive to get exact details who made the pass/catch or who ran with the ball and how long. Rabid fans can even download an entire game book full of stats :-)
Wanna try? We can even patent it :-) Let your creativity unleash! Post your wish list as comments and may be we'll some day make it for fun and even profit!
