    Fest Info: Biofest is being organised by the Department of Biotechnology, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, for the first time with a leitmotif of promoting research and innovation in various fields of Biosciences and Bioengineering.Being one of the few student-organized technical festivals, Biofest provides an ideal platform for industry-academia and industry-student nexus. With diverse range of events, workshops, and lectures, the festival aims at involving engineers, scientist, young entrepreneurs,future policy makers and even international students.The ultimate motive of the festival of the festival is to promote Biotechnology among students by giving them oppurtunity to experience and showcase innovation.Come celebrate Biotechnology with us in the first edition of Biofest from March 31st to April 1

    Many interesting events are scheduled for this edition of Biofest 2012

    Cult-Fest:

    Biofest consists of the following events:

    • Streaks: An event where art meets science. The event is a competition to see how artistic you can get with culturing bacterial lawns.
    • FoldIt: A game that’s revolutionizing the world. The structure of an important protein related to HIV was solved recently using FoldIt, which scientists had been trying for over ten years. The event comprises of a workshop and competition.
    • Forensics: Use biotechnology tools to solve forensics. The event is about finding the best Sherlock Holmes with the most advanced of forensic tools that we know of.
    • Biorobotics: A high end technology applied to a flourishing science. Robotics can have a huge impact in Biotechnology. Get started with building a small biomimicry-robot for the fest.
    • Biodocks: Advanced protein folding in form of a competition. This event is not for the faint hearted biotechnologists.
    • GD Challenge: Ethics, morality, humanity, science – these are some of the buzz words associated with Biotechnology. Come discuss them and battle out for impact.
    • IgNobel: This is an event about bringing out the scientist in you for the most bizarre of stuff. Check out the website for more details.
    • Open Quiz: People say biology is about knowing things. Lets see who knows them best among us.

    How to reach the college:
    Directions from Chennai Central Station:

    Hire an auto/taxi to IIT Madras or catch 19B or 5C which are direct buses to Gandhi Mandapam/IIT Madras.
    Or just take any bus to Adyar (1LSS, 4LSS, 6LSS, and 6A) and from the Adyar signal you can get to IIT easily by bus.
    From the main gate there are buses to the hostels every 20 mins.Once inside the campus go to the Hospitality Control Room.

    Directions from Egmore Station:

    Hire an auto/taxi to IIT Madras or catch 23C which is a direct bus to IIT Madras.
    Or take any one of 23E, 23A or 23G to Adyar from where there are number of buses to IIT Madras.
    From the main gate there are buses to the hostels every 20 mins.Once inside the campus go to the Hospitality Control Room.

    Directions from Airport:

    Hire an auto/taxi to IIT Madras or catch the bus PP21 to IIT Madras or 21G to Gandhi Mandapam.
