Fest Details
Fest Name: Alcheringa 2013 Organising College Name: IIT Guwahati Fest Type: Cultural Fest Fest Start Date: 31st January Fest End Date: 3rd February 2013 Fest Info: The lush green North East seems almost surreal during spring. However, the centre of buzz and
eccentricity every spring is ‘Alcheringa’, the annual cultural extravaganza of IIT Guwahati. Deriving its
name from the Australian slang for ‘eternal dream time’, Alcheringa started sixteen years ago with
just a few colleges from Guwahati and participants mostly from IIT Guwahati itself. In its sixteen
years of existence, Alcheringa, fondly called as ‘Alcher’, has grown leaps and bounds to become one
of the largest festivals in India and the numero uno in North East India.
For those who have experienced it, been a part of the dream and experienced it, can tell you that it
is nothing short of a visual delicacy for its witnesses. With Bollywood giants like, KK, Shankar Ehsaan
Loy, Shaan, Sonu Nigam, to world renowned artists like, Pandit Vishwamohan Bhatt, Giuliano
Modarelli, Alistair Macsween, coupled with international acts like, Eluvietie, Orphaned Land and
Motherjane, gracing Alcheringa in the past, Alcheringa has established itself as a mainstream festival
among the youth of our great nation.
But it’s not just the artists that make Alcheringa big, but also those who come faithfully each year to
witness it and be a part of it. Alcheringa aims at inviting all possible talents in the wide cultural arts
genre. Each year the stage of Alcheringa is ignited by performances from the goliaths of music,
dance, drama and many more discipline of cultural arts.
This year the festival is slated to be held from 31
st
Jan to 3rd Feb at IIT Guwahati. Recently,
Alcheringa announced the first of its four nights to be headlined by Mohit Chauhan, of ‘Rockstar’
fame. Moreover, from this year, Alcheringa has started the online sale of its passes on
www.ticketnew.com. A single pass grants access to one single person to witness all the four nights of
Alcheringa.
In its 17
th
edition, this juxtaposition of visual spectacles and cultural arts, is all set to take its
participants to hitherto unknown realms of dreamlands and pit them against each other in its very
own theatre of dreams. In tandem with it is this year’s theme, “Parallel Paradise”, where it gives
everyone a chance to set the entrapped spirits among them free and revel in a psychedelic universe.
To discover the paradise of your dreams and to find the repressed soul in you take control of you.
For it is here that we will rediscover ourselves, celebrate the spirit of competition and cherish an all
pervasive theme of life. -
