Folks at IIT-Kharagpur develop software to detect diabetic retinopathy
Toutued to be as one of the top innovations in the country, IIT Kharagpur has developed a software to detect diabetic retinopathy which can lead to blindness.
“The software uses data analytics capabilities to automatically compare and analyse retina images of the patient. It can not only tell if the patient has diabetic retinopathy but also provides risk categorisation ranging from low to medium and high,” said Chandan Chakrabarty of IIT Kharagpur, talking about the solution.
The project which is called Computer Vision Approach to Diabetic Retinopathy Screening is funded by IBM India and apparently has an accuracy as high as 92 percent.
