The Ministry of Human Resource Development came out with a new exam pattern for the AIEEE & the IIT-JEE entrance exams. This created a lot of confusion amongst the aspirants.
In the new pattern MHRD, acknowledges the vitality of Board examinations and the adjoining stress faced by the student appearing for Joint Entrance Examinations. The new pattern has been readily adopted by all IITs for JEE from 2013.
Firstly, JEE Main 2013 which has taken the place of AIEEE will be conducted and the top 1.5 lakh students of JEE Main will be allowed to appear for JEE Advanced 2013 subject to the condition that they satisfy the other eligibility condition that they are also the top 20 percentile scorers of respective board exams.
The final merit list of JEE Main 2013 will be generated by giving 40% weightage to the board marks and 60% weightage to the Entrance exam scores. In case, any State wants to give admissions in State University affiliated colleges, separate merit lists will be given to them on demand.
Exam Pattern for (B.E./B.TECH. and B.ARCH) JEE Main 2013:
The following table shows the subject combination, duration and type of questions asked in JEE Main 2013 for both - B.E. / B. Tech. and B. Arch courses:

The exam will have objective type questions with four options to choose from. Only one of them will be correct. The candidates who answer wrongly will get a negative credit of ¼ of the marks for that question. If however, the questions are left unmarked for, there will be no deduction of marks.
