Tata Steelís 6 Million Tonne integrated steel project at Kalinganagar has awarded the Tata Steel Parivar Scholarship for 2012-13 to 19 children belonging to displaced families. While seven students have taken admission in B-Tech programme in Engineering Colleges, 12 have been admitted to diploma courses in engineering. The scholarship covers the entire educational expenses of the recipients including College and hostel fees for pursuing their dreams in reputed technical institutions.

Mr. Arun Mishra, Vice President (Operations), Odisha Project distributed the scholarship to the students in a function organized at Kalinganagar today. Mr Rajesh Chintak, GM (Corporate Services) was among the dignitaries present on the occasion.

Introduced in 2007, the Tata Steel Parivar Scholarship is aimed at facilitating technical and professional education of children belonging to the families displaced by Tata Steel's Kalinganagar Steel Project.

Students from displaced families, who secure admissions into various recognized institutions for courses such as B-Tech, MBBS, MBA, Nursing, Pharmacy and Diploma in Engineering, are eligible for financial assistance including full tuition fee and hostel charges under the Tata Steel Parivar Scholarship programme.

Besides, to encourage and facilitate education among adivasi children belonging to the Tata Steel Parivar (the relocated families of Tata Steelís steel project at Kalinganagar), the Company has signed a MoU with the Bhubaneswar-based Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS). About 273 children from the rehabilitated families of Kalinganagar are studying in various residential schools in the State including KISS. Tata Steel is committed to protecting the best interest of all its stakeholders and to make economic growth inclusive.

The expectation is that these children can now find better jobs and, consequently, the socio-economic status of the displaced families will be better than at the pre-displacement stage. The benefits of the unique Tata Steel Parivar Scholarship Programme are over and above the comprehensive benefits extended to the displaced families as per the provisions of Rehabilitation & Resettlement Policy 2006 of the Government of Odisha.

This is a great step taken by the Tata Steelís at Kalinganagar to enhance the interest of their workers and their families towards education.
