The Kolkata Government is standing firm on its decision to conduct the CET (Common Entrance Test) for the enrollment of PG (Post-Graduate) students to state universities from 2013, regardless of any opposition from students. However, taking in account the varsityís autonomy, the CET committee has suggested that 50 percent weightage can be given to marks scored in the CET, while the varsity may decide on the other 50 percent. The universities are allowed to conduct interviews, give points or hold written examinations based on a studentís performance at the graduate level. All students graduating in 2013 will have to take the CET in the same year in June. CET qualified students can enroll for the PG courses from August, 2013 onwards. A merit list will be issued based on scores from the CET after which, students can apply to various varsities for the subject of their interest, based on their scores. Furthermore, the varsities can prepare a merit list based on CET rank. Students then have to clear the selection process of their preferred universities. Source: The Times of India
