Introduction to IPv6
The remarkable growth of the Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4)-based Internet has highlighted several fundamental limitations with that protocol. Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) addresses these issues and provides additional enhanced services and functionality. IPv6, also called IP-NG, is the "next generation" Internet Protocol and is the designated successor to IPv4. IPv6 Known as IP version 6 or IPv6, this new protocol promises a host of advantages that may in the future far surpass those of IPv4—the dominant IP today.
