BITS Pilani 2011 Admission | Cut Offs,Rank, Placements, Fees, Procedures Discussion

Hey vishal,
i scored 320 in bitsat 2011. Should i opt for civil/chem pilani or go for cse goa. By the way i am quite inclined towards cse. The only thing i am worried about is that are the packages for cse goa good and do all the companies that come to pilani also come there.

Go for CSE Goa then!! Yes, most companies visit both campuses with the exception of few......It is more important to learn what u like and excel in that.....placement apne aap ho jayega!!!

You can change your branch after coming to BITS PILANI.
Though its tough .YOU need a cgpa of more than 9 and around 9.5 to get CS or EEE.
Though you can take dual(any dual it doesnot matter).
You can change from say BIO to ECO or PHY if you get a cg of more than 8
and you get a good engg. dual like CS at a cg of around 7.5.

WHY YOU SHOULD SELECT BITS Pilani - Goa?? An interesting read by one of my friends....Hope u find it helpful!!!


This is the time around which you will be filling the forms for BITS giving campus preference
and all.You will get probably many advice from people whether to join IITS,BITS or say NITS.
THe choice becomes tougher if you get some 3500-5000 jee rank,5000-10000 aieee or say
310-330 in BITSAT.So before you fill the preference forms i would like to advice you to decide
what do you want.THe BRAND NAME or say a degree which you are interested in ?Do you want to
do higher studies in your branch or do you want to do MBA? Or maybe want to go abroad.






If you have no problem doing something like coconut technology or flower designing
(i doubt its there still ) from IITS and just want the brand name I would advice
you to go for it. But there are many people from IITs doing paper pulp and all those ****
subjects and are now worrying about their future.
Will you be able to do your 4 years of engg. doing a subject you most probably dont have
any clue about is up to you.My only advice is think care fully before you choose.




There are plenty of people getting 3000-6000 jee ranks in our Goa campus who are perfectly
happy with their respective branches here.





And if you are worried about the course fees then there is news for you all.
There is merit cum need scholarships which you can apply if your parents income is
less than 4.2 lakhs per annum.
Almost 30-40% (maybe even more) get it.So if you are from a business family you
cannot be any happier.
Also the top 10 get 100% fee waiver irrespective of income of parents.

Now let me tell you all about our BITS GOA campus.


People are generally apprehensive about our campus .All of worry about if they will get the same
degree as their fellow students in Pilani campus. For them:
Dont worry people!.The degree certificate is same
.I guess only the grade sheet mention your campus. Anyways if you want to study in our campus
but dont want to be associated with it and if you are worried about having Goa in your grade sheet
then maybe we are better off without you.


As for me its been 1 year in BITS and I am loving every moment of it.Probably the only place in India
where you can be in a party state and still get your degree from a brand name like Pilani.
What more can you want in life?
The campus is probably not as big as some of the IITs and NITS but believe me people
you will never see a more beautiful campus in India at least.Not a single area of our
campus has been wasted due to its planning .The main B-Dome is rumoured to be based on the
central building of MIT, US.


Not only this our course is also quite similiar to what is taught there.
Almost all the books are of foreign writers, mostly MITians.
Course structure is tough and probably you will be struggling to get a C most of the time like me
but people seriously whats in life without a bit of tension and last day cramming if you are like me.

The sad thing though is the tough grading system due to which you may work as hard as anyone in the campus
maybe even more than pilani and hyderabad people and still end up getting less cgpa.
Therefore think twice before taking dual (i.e msc degree) if you are not sure you can work hard for another
year.

And dont take EEE without thinking twice.It is the toughest branch in all the campuses(the EEE branch in Pilani
campus is considered to be the BEST in ASIA).But if you end up not liking it it will be GG in 3rd year cdcs
(compulsory disciplinary courses). If you are planning to take msc physics + eee then God save ya


The best choice I guess is to take mech(coolest branch ever).Avg pay package is good so are the companies
coming or if you are interested then comp. science.Considered litest branch provided you know
programming ****.



The placement scenerio has changed a lot.This year's placement has been quite good.A huge improvement
from last year's. Yahoo ,Oracle,Morgan Stanley,BHEl came, so did bus companies like Infosys.


But the main thing is not placements.What you get in this campus is people like you -All working their
asses off to come here.No quotas like IITS ,NITS where 50% of seats will be filled by people probably
getting half marks as you this year in the entrance exams.Lot of people get into IIMS as well as foreign
universities(some 8-10% people it was in 2009 i guess,this being almost the same % as of Pilani campus ) .

You wont believe it now but probably the % of people getting from our campus into the
IVY league universities is same as IITs and I am more than 100% sure better than most NITs.

This year's 4th ranker in UPSE exam is from our Goa campus.So is one of the Microsoft certified top 10
woman engineers.

NOt much maybe but remember this campus was started in 2004.


The thing is apart from engineering, which you were here to learn in the 1st place is that you get many
more career opportunities.


There are awesome clubs ,departments which you can join to improve your different skills.


Opps .almost forget to tell you about our cricket team which will be playing in GOA CRICKET ASSOCIATION
DIVISION 1 and will be sponsored by Aditya Birla.

The facilities are awesome from our worldclass multi gym , cricket field ,badminton courtsto
5-6 places to eat around the campus.
Night canteen has been started and also the draconian 11.30 rule is no longer there.

No crap rule about 75% attendence like in most of the IITS and NITS failing which you are barred from giving
the end sems.
Here you maynot attend a single class the whole sem and still nothing will happen to you(unless you get
acb coz then its GG the next sem) .Its perfect for night owls like me who sleep only after attending the
1st 2-3 lectures in the morning and spend their whole nights on dc.

DC rocks as usual.You can get all the latest movies,games and every damn thing imaginable.Its like google .
You name anything you will get it.You can also test yourself in CounterStrike,NFS and FIFA against other people
in lan.You will never sleep before 3 am again.


I can tell you many more things about Goa and you will still not be able to decide.Me myself was worried
crazy even after filling my preference order.Acc to the cuttoffs the year before I was getting chemical
, civil etc etc in Pilani campus and everything else in Goa and Hyderabad(my score was 314).
I took advice from every one possible and in the way got more confused.At last what I did was probably
already in my mind and maybe while taking opinion of others I was just trying to convince that what I had
decided was correct.I could have never stayed in a place like Rajasthan for 4 years considering the close
to 40% temperature in summer and sub zero in winter While in Goa its almost the same pleasant weather all
round the year.


Yeah, About cuttoffs!
You can ask about the low cuttoffs last year for Comp. science and ENI etc in our campus .
Lower than MSC's in PIlani.The only reason for that was the recession due to which the placements were not good
for these branches.To tell you all a secret-Probably the best placements were of eni people last year and it was
probably the branch most ridiculed by people till this year.


Yeah and about placements IT was chemical the year before that and cs for the 1st batch to passout.
Dont read too much into all this. Cuttoffs change so do placement scenereos.Dont be scared.Think long term
Another thing-This is almost same as the case of student prefering msc's over Info system(msc tech)
and then crying all throughout the 1st yr when they have to again slog.IS may be a lite branch but the
prospects are almost same as Comp. Science and so are placements.


And dont go by the cutt offs alone.My batch(2009) is probably the best batch ever to come to our GOa campus
in terms of the number of jee qualified people as well as the scary average marks in all the subjects.I prefer
to call these nerds noobs(most of them really are) who are unaware of the harm they are causing to lite people
like us who would have loved to relax a bit after comin to Goa.About me:my score was 314 and my campus rank(last
3 digits of your id) after 3rd iteration was in the 120's.So there are more than 120 people getting better bitsat
score than me in GOa.Some people are with score around 350 who could have CS in Pilani campus also.So like dumbasses
dont think that just because you are getting cs at 310(say cuttoff ia around that this year) all the people taking
CS will be having a score around that only.



And at last if your mom and dad are still worried about sending you to goa!
then I am too sad for you coz contrary to popular belief
people are not here to dope.They are normal people like you and me.While you are in campus you will not notice the
difference between goa or say any other place in India .


I guess by this time you have filled your preference order and all and there is nothing to be gained by most of the information I have given here.
Still if you are wondering whether you made the correct decision or not or are still
apprehensive about choosing Goa I hope this post will help.

having submitted the preference order, i have told that i have preferred eee over cs. and personally i want to do research in robotics in future.....is there enough scope if i prove to be a good student?? and i chose eee only because i want to invent some new thing....(i might be exaggerating, but i strongly belief i can)....so pls help me about the research facilities through eee.....

and is there schemes for scholarships in the field of research from pilani?? coz i need financial help in research as i heard research needs lot of money(might be wrong)....pls help......i am getting the best of streams in every nit and our regional jadavpur university......but hoping to join pilani only because i thing i can get a better exposure from bits........

hey vishal what's the scope of taking up <<<manufacturing>>> in pilani??? i got 8k in jee, around 5k in aieee and 313 in bitsat. Frankly should i fill it up or not??
bcoz if i fill it up i would probably get it in pilani and then i if i don't take up admission in it it's going to cost me around Rs. 17000 .From my side i don't even know what is it???
also plz guide me on the preference order chem up or civil up???? interest wise i can give 100% in any of them!!!!

Fcorse u shud opt for Pilani! Its much ahead in terms of brand and pedigree than NSIT or DTU......

If u are good u ll always find help at Pilani...lots of students have research projects going on and grants are always ensured for top projects....many professors also work with students on projects and this helps in wholesome learning experience! Dont worry, just come to to BITS!
