Comparison:
Dell Inspiron and HP dv4-31xx
Both the machines have HD 720p screens and are comparable. You can't enjoy the 1080p Blu Ray movies at maximum. Anyways that doesn't matter much on these budget machines.
AMD Radeon HD 6750M with DDR5 memory is very much faster than NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 525M with slower DDR3 memory. If you are into gaming, HP dv4 is your machine.
Dell XPS and HP dv61xx
The 1080p screen is the selling point of Dell XPS. If you want to enjoy movies on your laptop, go for XPS. But the screen upgrade does cost something around 10k. And the 720p screens are comparable, though HP screen looks a bit better.
Graphics wise HP dv6 is a gaming class(high mid level card to be precise) machine with it's AMD Radeon HD 6770M beating the NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 540M which is just an entry level graphic card. You can max out all the games that are currently available in market atleast in High settings if not Ultra.
Take the following order to compare the graphic cards that various laptops are offering today.
525M>540M>>550M=6750M>555M=6770M
(all the 5xx cards are from nvidia and 6xxx are amd cards)
Anyways Dell has Alienware range of laptops and HP has Envy series of laptops in Gaming Class.
Other options: Sony Vaio, Acer Aspire, Toshiba, Asus, Lenovo and Samsung range of laptops.
