Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is basically an entrance test for seeking admission to higher studies in engineering and engineering science. The exam is conducted by India's most prestigious college Indian Institute of Technology, IIT (by 7 old institute) along with Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore.
For the academic year 2015 the organizing institute of the exam is IIT Kanpur.Recently the recruitment to main PSU's is based on the GATE and as such the importance of this exam has been increase to a much higher level with huge number of candidate appearing in the exam.
The organizing institute has started issuing admit card for the exam from 17th December 2014. If you have not downloaded the admit card you can still download the same from http://gate.iitk.ac.in/GATE2015/
GATE 2015 will be commenced from 31st January 2015. The schedule for the exam is given below.
1. January 31, 2015:
Session 1 (9 am to 12 pm) - AG, AR, BT, CH, CY, EC, CY, XE, XL
Session 2 (2pm to 5pm) - EC, ME
2. 1st February 2015:
Session 3 (9 am to 12pm)- EC, ME
Session 4 (2pm to 5 pm) - AE, GG, IN, MA, ME, MN, MT, PH, PI, TF
3. February 7, 2015:
Session 5(9am to 12pm) - CS, EE
Session 6 (2pm to 5 pm) - CS, EE
4. February 8, 2015:
Session 7(9am to 12pm)-CE, CS
Session 8 (2pm to 5 pm) – CE
Exam Pattern of GATE 2015
The GATE examination consists of a single paper of 3-hour duration that contains 65 questions carrying a maximum of 100 marks. The question paper will consist of both multiple choice questions (MCQ) and numerical answer type questions.
The examination for all the papers will be carried out in an ONLINE Computer Based Test (CBT) mode where the candidates will be shown the questions in a random sequence on a computer screen. The candidates are required to either select the answer (for MCQ type) or enter the answer for numerical answer type question using a mouse on a virtual keyboard (keyboard of the computer will be disabled). Candidates will be provided with scribble pad for rough work and these have to be returned back after the examination. At the end of the 3-hour window, the computer will automatically close the screen from further actions.
Pattern of Question Papers
In all the papers, there will be a total of 65 questions carrying 100 marks, out of which 10 questions carrying a total of 15 marks are in General Aptitude (GA).
Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) carrying 1 or 2 marks each in all papers and sections. These questions are objective in nature, and each will have a choice of four answers, out of which the candidate has to mark the correct answer(s).
Numerical Answer Questions of 1 or 2 marks each in all papers and sections. For these questions the answer is a real number, to be entered by the candidate using the virtual keypad. No choices will be shown for this type of questions.
