Govt. College Of Engineering & Ceramic Technology kolkata – College Details

Our College of Ceramic Technology was established in 1941 by Professor Sasadhar Ray who was an eminent and educationist and the first Principal of the college. At that time the college was named as Bengal Ceramic Institute Calcutta, which later on flowered into College of Ceramic Technology. Professor Ray was one of the pioneers in spreading ceramic education in India. He obtained his M.Sc. degree in Physics in 1930, as a student of Prof. Satyendranath Bose, from the University of Dacca having been place first in Class. He was a research scholar under Prof. K. S. Krishnan-F. R.S. in the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science and served as a supervisor in Peripatetic Demonstration for Scheme of the Govt. of Bengal to popularize the ceramic manufacturing processes in the villages. He also worked for a brief period in the Industrial Research Laboratory, Dept. of Industries, Government of West Bengal.

Placements

Placements : Training & Placement Cell We are having a Training & Placement Cell to assist the students. This cell is working to build up relationship with different industries through Seminars/Workshops/Industry visit/Invited talk/Project & consultancies throughout the year. Students are sent to different industries for training. This cell arranges different campus interviews (on campus/off campus) to assist students to get suitable job but never guarantees for placement. A senior teacher is looking after this function on full time basis.

Central library:  Institute is having very good collection of books. We have a Central Library & Departmental Library in small scale. We are having Book Bank facility for Backward category of students.

Events

Annual Fest of The College– JAGRITI
The annual fast of the college is held every year in the month of January and we call it “JAGRTTI, which literally means Rebirth in Bengali. This Fest consists of Educational Seminars, Exhibition on Ceramic product and Fine Arts and Entertaining programmes. The “Jagriti Committee”, run by the students of the college, conducts this Fest and the said committee” has been registered. In this occasion, all the students of the college take active part in several cultural aspects like Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Drama, Literary activities, Fine Arts, etc. to make the programmer a success. A Get Together for the ex-students of the college is also being organized during this occasion. Several Inter College Competitions like Quiz Contest, Dumb Charade, Antakshari, etc. are also arranged. The leading industries of India like TISCO, BHEL, TRL, Vizag Steel plant, Bhilai Steel plant, Durgapur Steel plant, EID parry (India) Lid. Hindustan Sanitaryware, Saint Gobain glass, Carborundum Universal and many more give us immense supportand contribute extensively to make our endeavor successful. In the past years, renowned artists namely Mrs. Usha Uthup, Mr. Indranil Sen, Mrs. Arati Mukherjee, Rupankar, Chandrabindoo, Cactus, and others have glorified our Fest.
