Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology (MIT), Muzaffarpur is a premier institution of eastern India for technical education. It is under administrative control of department of science and technology and wholly funded by Govt. of Bihar. Established in 1954, MIT is one of the oldest technical institution in India. The foundation stone was laid by the first prime minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. It is affiliated to B.R.A. Bihar University and offers undergraduate programs in engineering and pharmacy with postgraduate specialisation in Machine design and thermal engineering. The institute also caters to the research and development activities of the state of Bihar

Placements

Placements:  The Training and placement cell of Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology is headed by Prof. A. K. Mishra. The aim and objective of this cell is to take care of the students’ training programme during the college days and guide them for seeking employment by arranging campus interviews in the college, make them aware of vacancies exiting in various industries/organizations and help them to achieve employment after passing out this institute. This cell is also responsible to organise the annual placement exercise of the institute and facilitates companies to conduct their recruiting procedure

Central library: MIT has a well-maintained library equipped with thousands of books related all streams of engineering. The books related to literature, art, current affairs, etc. contribute to vital part of its large collection.
It has rightly been said that the soul of a technical college lies in its library & laboratories. In this contest, MIT is fortunate enough to have a quite rich, compact and well organized library. The library has unique collection of some 15000 foreign and Indian journals in various branches of engineering and has more than 35000 of text and reference books. In addition to these, a general book bank is functioning with nearly 10000 books for all students and a welfare book bank having nearly 16000 books. The working hour of library is the same as that of the college but seminar section also operates during late evening hour. To encourage inclination towards studies, fully air-conditioned reading room is there and uninterrupted power supply is maintained by means of generators of the institute. A number of magazines and newspapers is also provided along with the curriculum books in the reading room.

Hostel: MIT provides state of the art hostel facility for its students. There are total seven hostels including a newly built girls’ hostel. All the hostels are well maintained and are equipped with all the modern facilities like telephones, color television, common rooms, ward servants, in-house games room and canteens.  With the intake of about 200 students every year, the total strength of students in the institute is about 900. Altogether there are seven hostels, providing accommodation to all students. Out of these seven, hostel No.-1 and hostel for girls are located within the campus. Rest five are situated at one place outside the campus just in front of gate No.-1 of the institute. There are single seated rooms which are normally allocated to final year and pre-final year boarders. Multi-seated accommodation constitute 2-seated & 3-Seated rooms which are allotted to the students of 1st & 2nd year. Out of these seven hostels, one is smaller which is called Welfare hostel, exclusively meant for scheduled caste & scheduled tribe students is under the control of welfare department.
