Final phase of placements end at IIM-A, beats market blues
When its placement season in IIMs, there's no looking back for the companies coming up for hiring the best managers in town whatever may be the market scenario. IIM Ahmedabad on Saturday completed its final placements for the batch of 2011-2013 with more than 130 companies recruiting. Boston Consulting Group hired 15 students making the consulting major top recruiter this year.
Around 50% of the batch sat for lateral placements and some of the companies that roped in students then included Aditya Birla Group, Amazon, Deloitte, General Electric, Google, Microsoft, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Five students opted out of the placement process to take the entrepreneurial route that includes a professional network for photographers, an online sampling and market research portal and an e-commerce venture for project equipment, said the institute.
'Despite adverse market conditions, IIM Ahmedabad did not witness a hiring freeze from any sector,' said a statement from the institute. Those who picked students from the banking world were Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Barclay's, Citibank, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, HSBC and Morgan Stanley amongst others.
Accenture, AT Kearney, Bain & Company, Booz and Company, Boston Consulting Group, Capgemini, Deloitte, Ernst & Young represented some of the consulting giants who hired during lateral and final placements. Accenture recruited 13 students while McKinsey & Company and Capgemini made 10 offers respectively, said the institute.
A large chunk of IIM A students opted for sales and marketing profiles in firms like Airtel, Asian Paints, HUL, ITC, Kraft, L'Oreal, Mars, Nestle, P&G, Pepsi and Reckitt Benckiser. Airtel topped the lead recruiter's role in consumer space by making 11 offers for India and international profiles in marketing and finance.
Those who opted for General Management and leadership profiles went for Aditya Birla Group, Cipla, General Electric, Ingersoll Rand, Mahindra, Reliance, RPG Group and TAS.
Cognizant, Google, Hewlett Packard, HCL, Microsoft, Oracle and SAP represented the technology domain.
Amazon recruited 7 students for roles in business development and operations. "Despite the uncertain economic scenario, students had opportunities in various sectors. Consulting firms, FMCG and pharmaceutical companies were among the major recruiters this year," said Barathram A, recruitment secretary, IIM Ahmedabad.
