    Android One: Features and Specifications

Android One is a Google programme where it is partnering with phone companies to create "high-quality" but low-cost Android smartphone. The programme was announced in June by Pichai and India is the first country where the company is launching Android One phones.

Android One will create affordable smartphones to billions of people who still use a feature phone can buy a smartphone.

The Android One phones run the latest version of Android ( currently, it is 4.4 KitKat) and will get updates for at least two years. Android One’s Chrome browser will help squeeze the data flowing between the phone and the Internet, thus helping to keep Net access bills down. If you are an Airtel customer, on your Android One phone you will get 100MB every month free to download OS updates and 200MB free every month to download app updates for six months.

It doesn't have any third-party user interface or unnecessary features. It is the version of Android created by Google. This means when you buy an Android One phone, you get the Android experience that Google has designed for you.

Only three Android One phones are available as of now. And currently, you can get them only in India and at specific e-commerce sites. The Spice Dream UNO is available at Flipkart at a price of Rs 6,299. The Karbonn Sparkle V is available at Snapdeal at a price of Rs 6,399. And Micromax Canvas A1 is available at Amazon India at a price of Rs 6,499.

In terms of hardware, all the phones feature front-and rear-facing cameras, 4 GB ROM, 1 GB RAM an identical quad-core processor from MediaTek, a microSD card slot for additional storage, as well as features important to Indians, like dual SIM slots and an FM radio tuner. Google apps such as Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Google Search, and Google Translate will come pre-loaded on the phones.

Android L will be released later this year — an update that will offer improved battery life, enhanced security features, and smarter notifications. Android One phones will be automatically updated with the latest OS.
