Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, slimmer 10.1
Samsung has surprised everyone by announcing launch of not one but two new tablets. Its commendable how Samsung was able to come out with a thinner 10.1 so soon. The new tablets from the Samsung stable are slimmer and lighter than even the i-Pad 2! Lets see how 8.9 and 10.1 stack up against the i-Pad:
The Local Players – the Jokers in the pack!
Now that was about the big MNCs, let us now try and understand what our local players are planning to do in this overheating market. With handset manufacturers like Micromax, Lava, Lemon, Spice, Zen, Olive, G’Five and Fly amongst others already accounting for 40% of the handset market, the tablet market seems like a good choice to enter into. A source tells FaaDoOEngineers that these players are expecting to replicate the successful formula of offering cheaper and competitive alternatives to the mid-income group. A stronger distribution network as compared to large players only adds to their confidence. With Google Android operating system expected to be the choice for these OEMs, it is expected that the tablets from these companies would rival that of the Samsung tablet. According to UK based research firm Strategy Analytics, the share of Android based tablets was now close to 22% up from 3% in the last quarter of the last financial year.
With Delhi based Lava Mobiles having announced its tablet priced between INR 15000 to INR 20000 is due for launch in September and G’Five too confirming an upcoming launch in April for a tablet priced around INR 10000, it is clear that the users are going to be absolutely confused when it comes to buying tablets.
But spoilt for choice, they are definitely going to be!!
