Robinson Cano and Mark Teixeira have been fairly quiet during this series against the Seattle Mariners.
It seems odd, but maybe they have a good chance to break out Sunday against ace Felix Hernandez.
Both Cano and Teixeira have enjoyed success in the past against Hernandez entering the finale of this four-game series at Safeco Field.
Cano is 2 for 10 in this series, although he had a three-run homer in Thursday's 6-1 victory in the series opener. Teixeira, who missed nearly the first two months of 2013 with a wrist injury, is 2 for 13 in the first three games with a solo blast.
Both may actually want to step into the batter's box against Hernandez (7-4, 2. 58 ERA).
Cano is a. 372 hitter against the Mariners ace,jordan shoes, going 16 for 37 for the fifth-highest average off Hernandez of any batter with at least 30 plate appearances. Teixeira is a. 311 hitter versus Hernandez, and his 61 at-bats against the right-hander is tied for the fifth-most against him.
Hernandez,, though,Nike Running Shoe, is 7-2 with a 2. 14 ERA over his last 11 starts against New York (36-26) with four complete games. He allowed one run over six innings May 14 and did not get a decision in a 4-3 loss in the Bronx.
Hernandez wasn't at his best Tuesday as he gave up four runs over 7 1-3 innings to earn his second straight win, 7-4 over the White Sox.
"I think he was a little sloppy with his delivery early on but he tightened it up, " manager Eric Wedge said.
Another Yankee who has fared well against Hernandez is Brett Gardner, who is 6 for 20. Gardner is 9 for 20 during a six-game hit streak with two doubles and a single in Saturday's 3-1 victory.
Jayson Nix added two hits and two RBIs as New York won for the fifth time in six games.
New York and Seattle have split six meetings,KD V Basketball shoes,, and the Mariners (27-36) are seeking to capture the season series for the first time since 2002.
Seattle has not received much from many of their key hitters in this series. Raul Ibanez and Michael Morse are both 1 for 11 while Kendrys Morales is 1 for 10.
Morales is day to day after he was removed Saturday in the sixth with back stiffness,
Kyle Seager remains a lone bright spot, going 5 for 12 to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. He's batting. 367 during his run.
Morales is the only one of those hitters who has faced David Phelps (4-3, 4. 15),Men Boots, who starts Sunday for New York. The Seattle slugger has a double in three at-bats.
Phelps is 3-2 with a 3. 66 ERA in seven starts, allowing one hit in six scoreless innings to earn Tuesday's 4-3 win over Cleveland. The right-hander has never started against the Mariners.
Vernon Wells had two hits Saturday for New York after starting June in a 1-for-22 rut.
"I think his timing has been a little bit off and he's been out front.... I thought he did a better job today, " manager Joe Girardi said.
