In the new pattern MHRD, acknowledges the vitality of Board examinations and the adjoining stress faced by the student appearing for Joint Entrance Examinations. The new pattern has been readily adopted by all IITs for JEE from 2013. Q.1 What is the new scheme of engineering Entrance Examination?

Ans.
It has been decided to hold a joint Entrance Examination(JEE) from the year 2013 for admission to the undergraduate programmes in engineering in two parts, JEE-MAIN and JEE-ADVANCED.

A. Admission to NITs will be based on 40% weightage for performance in class XII board/ equivalent examination marks (normalized) and the remainder 60% weightage would be given to performance in JEE MAIN and a combined All India Rank (AIR) will be decided
accordingly.



B. Only the top 150000 candidates performance in JEE MAIN will qualify to appear in JEE ADVANCED examination. Admission to IITs will be based only on category-wise All India Rank in JEE ADVANCED, subject to condition that such candidates are in the top 20 prcentile (category wise) in their respective board/Qualifying Examinations. the policy would be adopted by other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions and participating Institutions.

C. In case any State opts to admit students in the engineering colleges affliliated to State Universities and requires separate merit list to be provided based on relative weightages adopted by the states, the merit list shall be prepared with such relative weightages as may be indicated by states the examination will be conducted in the regional languages of the State(s) on request.

Q.2 What does top 20 percentile (category wise) in class 12th Boards/Qualifying Examinations means.

Ans.
According to the new pattern, a student should be in the top 20% of his/her respective 12th board exams. For instance, for year 2012, the 20 percentile cutoff for 12th marks of CBSE board was 77.8% marks. In coming years, we expect it to be somewhere between 80%-85% marks in CBSE class 12th boards.

Q.3 What are JEE MAIN and JEE ADVANCE Examinations?

Ans
. The erstwhile AIEEE exam will now be calles as JEE -MAIN exam. and erstwhile IITJEE will now be called as JEE ADVANCED, one has to appear in JEE-MAIN first to be in top 1.5 lakh students category-wise.

Q.4 What will be the admission criteria NIT, IITs and othet CFTIs?

Ans.
Admission to NITs will be based on 4o% weightage for total marks obtained in class 12th board/ equivalent exam (normalized) and 60% weightage to performance in JEE MAIN. A combined AIR would be decided accordingly. the policy could be adopted by other CFTIs and participating institutions.

Q.5 What will be the criteria for State Engineering colleges?

Ans.
In case any State opts to admit students in the engineering colleges affliliated to State Universities and requires separate merit list to be provided based on relative weightages adopted by the states, the merit list shall be prepared with such relative weightages as may be indicated by states the examination will be conducted in the regional languages of the State(s) on request. As of now GUJARAT state has opted for the same. Most of other states are expected to opt this pattern with even more weightage to class 12th performance.

Q.6 Will there be negative marking in JEE 2013?

Ans.
YES. There will be objective type questions with four options having single correct answer. For each incorrect answer, one fourth(1/4) of the total marks alloted to the question will be deducted. No deduction from the total score will, however be made if no response is indicated in the answer sheet.

Q.7 Where the Forms will be available?

Ans.
There will not be any physical sale of forms. The forms will be filled up 'online' only. The forms will be available online on JEE-Main website www.jeemain-edu.in.

Q.8 Will the JEE-MAIN will be conducted in online mode also?

Ans.
The JEE(Main) exam will be conducted in mixed mode i.e both offline (Paper and Pen Based Exam) and online (Computer Based Exam) mode. JEE(Advanced) will be conducted in offline mode only.
