Abstract : This is a LAN Messenger designed to function in a heterogeneous network containing mainly machine running on windows-based and linux-based machines on which the Java Virtual Machine(JVM) is running.

The main reason for taking up such a project was the lack of a simple LAN Messenger which works in a heterogeneous network.

The obvious choice of the programming language was JAVA in which the compiled bytecodes can be interpreted on any machine running the JVM.

Morever, the product is based on a peer-to-peer architecture rather than the conventional Client-Server architecture.
